Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (Korean:Chinjeolhan geumjassi)

Taken from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451094/plotsummary

Plot in summary:

Lee Geum-Ja, at the age of 19, goes to prison for the murder and abduction of a child on behalf of her accomplice Mr. Baek, only to find out that she is betrayed. While in prison, she carefully prepares for her revenge by winning the hearts of her fellow inmates with her kindness, thus earning herself the nickname 'kind Ms. Geum-Ja'. Upon her release from prison after 13 years, she finally sets out to seek revenge on Baek, with the help of her former prison mates.

I can't make out whether is it a compact mirror or her handphone, but she looked extremely beautiful with those red eye-shadow

Spoilers ahead!!!

It is also called the Trilogy of the "Revenge" series by Park Chan Wook, the same director for "Old Boy" only abit milder and prettier.

Think about 'The Bride" in "Kill Bill", only abit more intelligent and classier.

Lee Youngae plays the innocent woman Geum Ja, who admitted to the crime (of kidnapping and suffocating a nine year old boy to death) she never commit in order to save her 1 year old daughter from a psychotic kidnapper (Mr Baek) who enjoys killing young children. She was put behind bars for 13 years and vowed to herself she would get back her sweet revenge in a beautiful manner.

During her imprisonment, she made friends with those who were bullied by the 'butch' (a fat woman who killed her husband and mistress and ate them, but was eventually 'killed' by Geum Ja's bleached meals for 3 years!!!), donated a kidney to a bank robber and helped to take care of an old female North Korean spy. She was called the 'Witch' and 'Goddess' as she looked kind and friendly. (she put on those red eye shadow because people says she looked too kind) In fact, she helped those people because she was expecting them to return her the favour to assist in her revenge when she was free from prison.

Although it was purely on revenge, the plot potrayed in a very dark humourous way. Some parts that are quite disturbing where Mr Baek was being tied to a chair waiting for his sentence. Instead of Geum Ja 'killing' him alone, she called upon those parents of the kidnapped childen and played those tapes that Mr Baek had tortured and "finished off" those children. There was a shocking part where Mr Baek did something to the poor child (in the video) which really made my hair stand and nearly fell off from the chair... (ain't going to tell u.. u better go and watch.. hehe...) Eventually... due to hatred, all parents took turns to kill Mr Baek, finally, the most crucial part ended with the grandmother stabbed an incredibly long scissors into the back of Mr Baek's neck.....

The scenes may look gross from how I described, but they are very masterly played.. in fact, very violently beautiful.

Some parts which I think are what they are:

1) Guem Ja's daughter, Jenny is also Mr Baek's child. That's the reason why he did not kill her but sent her to the orphange and was adopted by the Australian family.

2) Guem Ja killed the poor dog bought on the streets because she wants to learn how to fire in close range from her beautiful new gun custom-made for her.

3) Mr Baek hates children because he is sterile, but it can be a lie told by Guem Ja because she wants to hide the truth.

4) The white mist found in Guem Ja's apartment is actually the ghost of the boy who wants to wake Jenny up to inform her that her mommy is coming back home, not any gas leak... hehehe....

5) The ghost of the dead boy who suddenly "grew up" in front of Guem Ja still left me scratching my head.. ( I dun quite understand the meaning...)

Anyway, go catch it!!
